Product Overview
Custom automotive connector peripheral seals are designed to create a reliable waterproof boundary between the plastic connector housing and the mating interface. This product is manufactured by overmolding liquid silicone rubber (LSR) onto an engineering plastic substrate to form a continuous sealing lip around the connector face.
Why Use an LSR Peripheral Seal
Compared with separate rubber rings or manually assembled gaskets, an LSR overmolded housing gasket offers more stable positioning, cleaner sealing boundaries and better assembly consistency. The silicone is formed only where sealing is required, while the terminal cavities and electrical contact areas remain open and functional. This structure is widely used in waterproof automotive electrical connectors exposed to vibration, dust, moisture and temperature cycling.
Material and Structure
The housing is typically made of engineering plastics such as PA66 or PBT, while the sealing area is made of liquid silicone rubber. The silicone is overmolded around the connector perimeter to create a continuous sealing path. Typical design features include a continuous perimeter sealing lip, stable bonding between silicone and plastic, open terminal cavities, and support for IP67 or IP68 sealing targets depending on the final assembly design.
