Description

Custom LSR Overmolded Silicone Tubing Y-Connector

Custom LSR overmolded silicone tubing Y-connectors are designed for fluid-transfer assemblies that require an integrated junction between multiple silicone tubes.

Three silicone tubes are accurately positioned inside the mold, and liquid silicone rubber is molded around the external junction area to create a continuous Y-shaped connection.

Unlike a separate rigid fitting installed between the tubes, the overmolded structure can create a compact integrated transition while keeping the internal fluid path open.

How Does Silicone Tubing Overmolding Work?

Before molding, the silicone tubes are positioned according to the required branch angle and insertion depth.

Liquid silicone rubber is then injected around the Y-junction area.

The molded silicone must remain outside the fluid lumen. The internal tube openings must stay completely free from silicone, flash and blockage.

Important tooling requirements include:

Accurate tube positioning
Stable shut-off around the tube OD
Controlled overmolding length
Uniform junction wall thickness
Open and unobstructed fluid paths
Controlled flash around tube interfaces

Why Use an Integrated Y-Junction?

An integrated silicone junction can reduce the number of separate fittings and secondary assembly steps in a tubing system.

Depending on the final application and validation requirements, the structure may help provide:

Smooth flow transition
Fewer connection interfaces
Reduced loose fitting components
Integrated tube positioning
Compact Y-junction geometry
Customized branch angles
Customized tube diameters
Silicone-to-silicone construction

The final fluid performance must be evaluated according to the customer's complete tubing system.

Critical No-Silicone Areas

The internal fluid lumen is the most important protected area.

LSR must not enter:

Tube lumen
Fluid pathway
Required connector opening
Inspection opening
Customer-defined functional interfaces

The mold should therefore use accurate cores, shut-off surfaces and tube support structures to control silicone flow around the junction.
